Two copies of the above book were made and dedicated to Prince (King) Charles in 1993. My friend (and business partner at the time) and I presented my book to him following the wonderful support we received from the Prince's Youth Business Trust.

How it all began...

PXL_20230208_161617269~4_edited_edited.j

This is how Myrtle looked in 1990.  Sue was studying Graphic Illustration and she had reached her final year.  She can't remember exactly what the class brief entailed but whatever it was Sue was struck with inspiration...and within just a few minutes had scribbled down her first children's book!

Myrtle the Mushroom was born and Sue was just 19 years old.

The most observant of you will notice that way back then Myrtle didn't have a face, or even arms and legs.  (Myrtle wasn't allowed to be fully seen in those days.) However, anyone who knows Myrtle will know that she has the most awe inspiring, and what Sue calls "ridiculous hope" imaginable.  (It really is ridiculous!) So between them, they knew without a doubt that one day they would find the courage and confidence to change all of this.

For the next 30 years or so Myrtle sat on Sue's shoulder whispering in her ear.  Sue listened, every single day, with an unwavering intention and promise that she would one day achieve Myrtle's wish.

You see Myrtle didn't like feeling so shut down, with no voice, no arms and legs and no one to hear all she had to say!  Oh no, Myrtle actually quite likes a good chatter...and has the cheek and the charm of a thousand mushrooms (maybe even a million!) Myrtle has always believed, with all her might, that if Sue introduces her to the outside world she will be able to show children of the future lots and lots (literally loads) of things that would be helpful for them to know about their parts, their bodies, their emotions and their nervous systems.

And not just the children, Myrtle also believes she has a lot to teach adults too.  (See, I told you she is cheeky!)

So this became Sue's goal, her plight, her reason for living, and ultimately, Sue's own reason for healing....(It is very hard to say no to Myrtle!)

Sue describe herself as simply a conduit, she loves to write down all our adventures and then she add's the clever therapist stuff, describing what we are doing in ways that she hopes will be easy to understand.

Sue has put in rather a lot of work over the past three decades, healing her own body, mind and spirit....as well as getting to know all of us.  (It has taken her rather a long time to be honest, but as Mindful Marauders our aim is not to judge). Sue's had to delve deep, deep down inside herself, as well as finding exactly how to fully represent me and the rest of the Mindful Marauders in a way that we are all finally content with.  (We were a little fussy to be honest...but Sue is not allowed to judge either.)

We hope that when you read more about us you will see, not just pictures on a screen or in a book but the light that emanates out of us, the depth of courage that explodes from within us and the compassion, love and joy that sparkles all around us.

We also hope that we can share all of this with you and help you find it too...

Scattering you all with love, sparkles and gratitude.
